Landing the top position at the company where you once interned is akin to winning the career lottery. It’s a dream many pursue, sometimes with wide-open eyes and other times with blind hope. Yet, only a fortunate few achieve this feat. When Nike announced its new CEO, curiosity sparked among many who began to look into his journey—some seeking inspiration from a truly remarkable story.Elliott Hill began his journey at Nike 36 years ago, not as an experienced executive but as a determined intern, a role he had fervently pursued for six long months. As of October 14, he will officially take over as President and CEO, succeeding John Donahoe. In a statement, Hill expressed his deep connection to the brand, saying, “Nike has always been an integral part of my identity, and I’m excited to help lead the company into an even brighter future.”Throughout his tenure, Hill has worked alongside some of the best in the industry, contributing to the transformation of Nike into the incredible company it is today. He emphasized his eagerness to reconnect with long-time colleagues and partners, stating, “I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the many employees and trusted partners I’ve collaborated with over the years, and I’m equally excited to forge new, impactful relationships that will drive us forward.”After graduating from Ohio University in 1988, Hill launched his career at Nike as an apparel sales representative intern. His determination led him to transition to the sales team, where he quickly climbed the ranks. By 1998, he was appointed Director of the Team Sports Division, a position he held for two years before advancing to Vice President of EMEA Sales and Retail. His upward trajectory continued as he became Vice President and General Manager of USA Retail, followed by a promotion to Vice President of USA Commerce just a year later. Read More
