The origins of LHSAC trace back to 1899, making it one of the oldest and most respected Ayurvedic institutions in India. It was founded by the benevolent efforts of the late Sahu Lalita Prasad and his younger brother, the late Sahu Hari Prasad, who envisioned a center dedicated to the study of Sanskrit and Ayurveda. The college’s early curriculum offered the “Vaidya Bhushan” program, a foundation for future Ayurvedic scholars.
The institution’s dedication to quality education led to its growth and eventual transition. In 1959, the State Government assumed control of the management, and by 1974, it was fully declared a Government College. This transition marked a new era of state support, ensuring its sustainability and commitment to public service. Over the decades, the curriculum evolved, leading to the current comprehensive program culminating in the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, and later, the introduction of postgraduate studies.

LHSAC is committed to providing rigorous academic training, approved by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and currently affiliated with the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, Gorakhpur. Undergraduate Course: BAMS

Admission: Admission to the BAMS course is typically based on the marks secured in the NEET-UG examination, followed by state-level counselling.
Intake Capacity: The annual student intake for the BAMS program is generally around 63, which includes seats reserved under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota.
Postgraduate Course: MD (Ayurveda)
For advanced studies and specialization, the college offers the Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Ayurveda. Historically, one of the prominent specializations has been Dravyaguna Vigyan (Ayurvedic Pharmacology and Materia Medica).

Admission: Selection for the MD (Ayurveda) program is usually through the All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET), followed by counselling.
